A little about me
Richard was born in the late 60's, the consequence of a chance encounter between a one-handed truck driver and a Catholic. He was raised on the outskirts of Sheffield on a diet of Baked Beans and Henderson's Relish and spent his youth wandering the hills, getting drunk and avoiding capture by his parents.
The great shoe blight of 1973 hit the Ward family hard, footwear was rationed and rather than share pumps with his sister Richard took it upon himself to learn the art of levitation when that failed he started cycling and for the next 40 years his feet barely touched the ground.
Nature blessed Richard with two things, long arms and high muscle density, neither of which proved particularly useful until 2014 when he started obstacle racing. During his first race whilst his group was reconvening Richard went back and did obstacles a 2nd and on occasion 3rd time; thus the OCR fire was lit.
When he is not racing Richard is training, when he is not training he is looking for races, when he is neither racing or training he is usually asleep, dreaming about racing. What Richard lacks in ability he makes up for in belligerence and sheer bloody-mindedness, he is a dedicated subscriber to the concept of going through things rather than around them. Where there is a Ward there is a way.
Currently, Richard is adapting his technique, he no longer runs like Captain Jack Sparrow but still has work to do. He is quite affable and almost approachable, happy to chat about most topics, just be aware that the conversation will always become about him.
He finds being described as an athlete vexing.
